The Production of tights has always been a matter of technology. The first real knitting machine to manufacture legwear, was invented in 1589 by an English priest named William Lee. This machine made it possible to knit 800 stitches a minute. Women that used to hand knit stockings until then, were only able to knit 60 to 80 stitches a minute.

Today's production of pantyhose has become a high-tech industry. Materials used are no longer just yarns made of cotton and silk or nylon, but also new more durable and comfortable yarns have found their way into production. LYCRA, LYCRA 3D, Meryl, Tactel and many other fibers are some of the most common names used in products today. Machines run by computers are able to knit even the sheerest yarns with ultimate precision.
